Sir Samuel Davidson and his amazing Sirocco Fans, with guest speaker Eric Woods
FREE
As an East Belfast teenager Samuel Davidson sailed off to India to grow tea. Not satisfied with the very crude means of manufacturing the final product he applied himself to experiments which resulted in the invention of his famous, world beating "Sirocco" Fan. He established his own Belfast factory to manufacture these fans, which brought about great advances in Ventilation, Heating and Air Conditioning, applied in mines, underground railways, ships, factories, hotels, hospitals and other public buildings around the world and making himself and Belfast famous in doing so.
Local historian Eric Woods is currently writing a book on Sir Samuel Davidson and the Sirocco Works in East Belfast.
Part of our ‘Tuesday Talks’ programme: free talks about the heritage of the local area, followed by a cuppa and a chat. Hosted by the Strand at our pop-up venue at Connswater Shopping Centre. Made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund
