The Strand opened in 1935 and is now the oldest cinema in Northern Ireland. It is also unique in its distinctive architectural style which merges Art Deco with shipyard influences. The cinema will host an illustrated talk from Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive, with material depicting different aspects of life in Belfast throughout the Twentieth Century.

The films shown would cover society, industry, pastimes, significant places and personalities.

Illustrated Talk with footage from Adventure Time showcasing their Scientific exploits. Adventure Time is award winning animated American TV series with cult following. An eclectic mixture of characters who champion the role of science during their crazy adventures.

After the talk a special animation with Adventure Time characters will be created. All adventurers, scientists and princesses welcome.

WRITE & PERFORM YOUR OWN OSCAR ACCEPTANCE SPEECH!
7 years+
Learn about the significance of the Oscars, and watch clips of some of the best and worst acceptance speeches over the years. Decide what you would like to win an Oscar for How you might react? Who would you like to thank? Work up your speech with help from Lamb Films, then take to the stage, collect your own (fake!) Oscar and perform your acceptance speech. We’ll catch it all on camera so parents/guardians can keep for posterity and share on social media.

Lewis Carroll’s beloved fantasy tale is brought to life in this Disney animated classic. When Alice, a restless young British girl, falls down a rabbit hole, she enters a magical world. There she encounters an odd assortment of characters, including the grinning Cheshire Cat and the goofy Mad Hatter. When Alice ends up in the court of the tyrannical Queen of Hearts, she must stay on the ruler’s good side -or risk losing her head.

Begins with the film screening, break for lunch, workshop. A fun and dynamic theatre workshop, exploring character, movement and story. Participants will begin to explore how characters can be created using the body and the voice.
This will be a fun introduction for beginners, or a playful continuation for those with some skills already.

Special Lego Batman Movie Camp
Held at Clayrazy on 77 Holywood Road (7min walk from Strand), ending with a screening of the new Lego Batman Movie at Strand Arts Centre.

We have teamed up with the Clayrazy to create a unique and amazing Lego Batman Movie Day. The kids will enjoy Lego Builds, Clayrazy make and take themed workshops, fun game and activities and Lego Freeplay, including Clayrazys NEW giant super sized lego bricks. Registration cost includes clayrazy make and take, snack and entry into this NEW Lego Batman movie.

Part of Belfast Children's Festival
'Lego City' creative building workshop + 3D virtual reality headsets to inspire the kids on their awesome city builds!

The kids will be transported across the globe to explore different types of cities. They will also enjoy Lego Builds, Freeplay, build your chosen motorised Lego technic vehicle then drive it through the city obstacles by remote control.
